Improving Access to Local Health Care
Memorial Health Center adds new clinic, providers (Medford) Rural areas of Wisconsin are being hit hard by the nationwide shortage of physicians, and the shortage is only expected to get worse over the next 20 years, says the Wisconsin Council on Medical Education and Workforce. Finding physicians willing to work in rural locations is becoming more difficult, limiting patient access to health care services, increasing wait times for appointments, and impacting the delivery of care. Many physicians aren’t willing to give up the convenience and higher salaries that bigger cities offer, leaving places like rural Wisconsin underserved. Aware of the growing physician shortage, Memorial Health Center, an Aspirus partner, is being proactive in recruiting and retaining physicians. It's part of an effort to ensure that residents of north central Wisconsin will not experience interruptions in their health services. Recently, Memorial Health Center opened a new primary care clinic in Phillips and hired six new medical professionals. These providers offer increased access to the quality health services available at Memorial Health Center Clinics.
